With broken hearts, the family of Shani Kimaada Dean of Newark, NJ announces her passing at home on Sunday, March 22, 2026. She was only 49 years old.

Born in the summer of 1976 to Kenneth and Frances (Tanksley) Dean, Shani lived her whole life in Essex County. After attending vocational school for office administration, she worked in that field before transitioning to social work. She was a designated support person for Youth Consultation Services at the time of her passing.

Shani loved her work – she put her heart into caring for each of her clients. She enjoyed cooking for her family and friends, crocheting, and relaxing with a movie on Lifetime or ones about an underdog that comes out on top.

But most of all Shani loved her daughter and her granddaughter. She was devoted to them and their happiness. Shani will be missed more than words can say.

Shani is survived by her beloved daughter, Jahmani; her cherished granddaughter, Prosperity; her loving brothers, Jared and Dino; and her friends and colleagues.

Relatives and friends are invited to a Memorial gathering on Saturday, April 4th from 12:00 to 2:00pm at Codey Funeral Home in Caldwell. A Funeral Service will be celebrated at 1:00pm.
