I worked with Bill at New Horizons Computer Learning Center in the mid-90s. Bill was enjoyable to work with and always gave me advice as I was new in the civilian workforce. I pray for Bill and his family. Rest in peace Bill.

Bill was my Uncle out in Southern California while I grew up with little support from my own Father. Long before Billy III was born he very much was a strong male role model for me and helped fill that role in my childhood. He taught me how to know right and wrong, when to stand up for myself, how to push myself more, and would drive in LA traffic for hours each way just to see me play baseball, football, or basketball. When I got older we would talk about War, Rock and Roll, Road trips, what to expect in life and I always grew as a result of a deep talk with this good-hearted man I grew to learn from. All of the little things he taught me, and all of the big moments we had laughing, talking history, sports, politics, I will treasure them all. I am sorry for your loss, as he was a great and close friend/relative/coach for me, and my thoughts go out to you, all of his close relatives, the Jones family, and all the ones that shared a connection to him. Rest in Paradise Bill
I miss you
Love
Eric

Carolyn - sorry to hear this. I knew his father in 1967 when I was in college, working one summer at the Caldwell Post Office. A nice fair serious man. He knew my Dad, I discovered one day.
I believe there is a Verhaegen near my Hillside Cemetery (Fairfield NJ) plot. I have a hunch that we are distantly related. I have 11,000 people in the tree that I made. Mostly, Fairfield and Caldwell people since 1725. I would enjoy corresponding with you at:
gpierce9@comcast.net. I also have a facebook account at glen wesley pierce.
Again, condolence to you and family.

Bill and I were colleagues in our common goal of getting the Government of India and the United States to cooperate in allowing the recovery of the remains of relatives of ours killed while serving with the US Army Air Force in India during World War II: his relative was his uncle, Staff Sgt. Louis F. Verhaegen, assistant radio operator of the B-24 42-40069 ("Pregnant Swan") and my relative was my uncle, 1st Lt. Irwin Zaetz, navigator of the B-24 42-73308. Bill will be sorely missed.

my happiest moments of childhood involve my cousins. In adulthood as I moved out to El Paso Texas in 1981 and having a very different chaotic, traumatic, life , I was not always in touch with my family but as the years went by Billy was always in touch with me especially during some very hard times. Over the past year and a half I became reunited with my cousins and we planned a family reunion this coming July. My cousin Bill was going to pick me up as he and his son we're going to go cross country on it adventure. We would talk every so often and the last time Billy had called to see if I was OK because we have had some flooding here in El Paso. In 2006 my home had been completely destroyed by floods, and Billy never forgot that so he contacted me just a few months ago to see if I was OK. We have been texting back-and-forth when he went into the hospital and when I asked him if he was doing better he said yes and he would be home in a few dates I texted him back and the answer I got was that he had died. It has been a long time since I have had this depth of grief and my heart goes out to all of you who shared this grief. Dearest so very much more I can share as Billy was helping me to get to know some stuff about my own father but need to keep this short for you all.
