We don’t know each other, but after reading about your loss I just wanted to share my own deepest sympathy with you.
I lost my father unexpectedly a few years back. The only thing that helped me deal with my grief and brought me real comfort was the reminder that our heavenly father truly cares about what we go through (1 Peter 5:7). If you are not Christian please find comfort in your own faith’s written words, or if you are an agnostic or atheist, find comfort in the words of the many philosophers who write about life and death.
Please feel free to contact me and I would love to help you through this period of your life, unfortunately we all will experience if we live long enough.

To the Hughes Family, I met Patti the summer of 1970 when both of us were freshmen at Mount Saint Dominic Academy. Because both of our surnames were in the beginning of the alphabet, I had the privilege and joy of sharing every homeroom and many classes with Patti during the next four years. After graduation, both of us pursue English and literature degrees, and I was so proud of her and her success in the publishing industry. We would see each other occasionally, and her greatest joy was her beautiful family. She was such a lovely person, and so proud of all of you. Please know you are in my heart, thoughts and prayers.

I'm so very sorry for your loss. I worked with Patti years ago at Time Warner/Little Brown -- we didn't work closely together but I recall her being wonderfully professional and kind, and of course, so besotted with her family.
Our paths did not cross in recent years, but again, when I'd hear of Patti throughout the years via our publishing colleagues, I'd always think of her with fondness. When I learned that she had passed away, it took my breath away, since I didn't know she'd been ill and of course because she was young. Please accept my condolences -- I watched the lovely tribute video and grieve for you the loss of someone so important to all of you. May your memories of her comfort you in the days to come.

I am very sorry for your loss, and so deeply saddened by Patti's passing. I had the pleasure and opportunity to work with Patti for 15 years at Macmillan. She was always positive, warm, supportive, funny, and collaborative...all at the same time. She was also a great mentor, and one of the most balanced people I have had the privilege of knowing. She will be deeply missed. My deepest condolences to all of the Hughes family.

This whole week has felt unreal. Patti was so active until the end that news of her passing on Monday morning didn't seem like it could be true. I worked in Patti's department for 7 years but in other ways, before that, for a total of a decade. Maybe the best compliment I can think to give Patti is that she made me a much better worker than I was before working for her. I was good before but she taught me a lot and made me consider things I hadn't. That was her way and I owe a lot to her. Shortly before Mother's Day Patti and I had a 20 minute subway ride together and we didn't talk much about work but instead our families. She inquired what my plans were for Mother's Day (Crap, that's just around the corner, I thought, thanks for the reminder!) She was so happy she was going to be seeing her kids. My heart and thoughts go out to Larry, Sarah, Emily and Greg, I've heard a lot about all of you over the years. Patti will be missed.

Our condolences from all of us at Papercutz, a distributed line at Macmillan. Patti was wonderful to work with. Professional, sharp, always made herself available for input and advice, a guiding light in the ten years we worked with her.
She would have given many more years of infectious passion and devotion to her work...
She will be sorely missed.

I had the very good fortune to work with Patti for a few years in publishing: first as a liaison at Rodale, one of MacMillan's (then Holtzbrinck's) distribution clients, then as a member of Patti's very own team. I remember first meeting her in a hotel during a conference - I thought she was so energetic and spoke so quickly! As a supervisor she worked her team hard, but never unreasonably so. She expected the best from you and was always willing to listen to your opinion. I can honestly say that she was one of my favorite people to work for, and I am so happy to have known her.
My thoughts and prayers are with Patti's family, to whom I know she was incredibly devoted. I am truly sorry for your loss.

I am so, so sorry and am grateful for this opportunity to tell you how much Patti meant to me. I worked with her through her distribution relationships with two very different publishers. She was fantastic to work with, but most importantly, we were able to know each other more and more personally over the years. She was so kind and so thoughtful and helpful to me personally and I have always been grateful to her. I really enjoyed our lunches talking about all of you and your schooling and your lives. I still can’t believe we won’t have more of those discussions. I’m so sorry and my thoughts are with you all—

I am very saddened by Patti's death. She was in charge of distributing the College Board's books to the trade, and was not only extremely competent and energetic in that role, but she was always honest, thoughtful, good humored, and supportive. The College Board could not have asked for a better partner. I will miss her good cheer and her thoughtful support of our publishing efforts. Even now, I can hear her wonderful laugh, which I will miss very much.

I am so shocked and saddened to hear this news. Patti was a wonderful person, always so warm, affectionate, and caring. My heartfelt condolences go out to her family and colleagues at Macmillan for this terrible loss.

I was shocked and saddened to learn of Patti’s death; it’s hard to imagine such a warm, vibrant person is no longer among us. I had the good fortune to work with Patti twice, first at St. Martin’s very early in my career, and more recently at Bloomsbury. In both places she was, as so many others have said, a ray of light—someone you always looked forward to seeing in the office. In one of my last days at Bloomsbury I remember laughing with her even as we were dealign with some vexing distribution problem. That image of her will always stay with me. I know she will be a tremendous loss to her family and to so many past and present colleagues—my sympathy to all.

I have always said that Patti mattered deeply to me...despite not getting together all that often, I knew that we were close friends and I am so infinitely sad. I've been worried but never thought we would lose her suddenly and can only imagine the pain and grief her family is feeling.
We have lost one of the best people I've ever had the good fortune to know.

I don't understand how someone of Patti's warmth and magnificently gentle heart could be taken from all who knew her. I've been graced these past fifteen+ years in working with Patti at Macmillan. While our paths didn't cross every day, it was because of that very fact that when we did find ourselves in the same meeting room or hallway or standing together in an elevator that Patti's personality felt all the more special. What Patti shared with me is a part of her that I will always carry.

I was so sorry to hear about Patti and my thoughts go out to you Larry and your wonderful family. Patti and I grew up together at St. Martins Press and then did a stint together again at Little Brown. Please accept my deepest sympathy on this hard loss. Patti was so remarkably kind and helpful and positive. She and I worked together in our first jobs at St. Martin's Press, going to Rudy's delicatessen regularly for its cheap white bean soup. We grew up in our early careers together and she was always willing to think the best of me and those around us. And we had our love for Les Pockell in common. I hope that they are together now, and that he is making her laugh as he so often could do.
