Obituary of Avis Whenner

Avis Whenner, 48, of Orange, NJ, passed away on November 7, 2016. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Valley Church in Orange on Saturday, Nov. 12 at 10 AM. Interment will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in East Orange. Visitation is at the Codey & Jones Funeral Home, 54 Roseland Ave. Caldwell, NJ (973-226-6696) on Friday, Nov. 11 from 4-7 PM. Born in Dominica, Avis moved with her family to St. Croix and then to Brooklyn, NY where she resided until moving to Orange, NJ. She worked as a registered nurse at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York and at the VA Hospital in East Orange. Avis loved to go on cruise vacations, and help others. She was most dedicated to her son, Geordan, she was his #1 fan when he played basketball with Seton Prep and The West Orange Knights A.A.U. Teams. Avis is survived by her dearest friend, George Walker; her loving son, Geordan Walker; parents, Bingham and Carol Whenner; dear friend,Violet Levelle; sisters, Marsha Williams and Terah Whenner; aunts, Ann, Augustine, Joan, Joyce Daffodil and Vincear; uncles, Jeffry, Ian, Alexis, John, Audly and Osworth; also many nieces, nephews and cousins.
