James L. Lott, 86, Retired F.B.I. Special Agent James L. Lott of Roseland, N.J. and formerly of Spring Lake Heights and West Caldwell passed away on February 23, 2019 after a brief illness. Jim was born on July 4, 1932 in Brooklyn, N.Y. He attended elementary and high school in Queens before moving with his family to N.J. Jim earned a bachelor's degree in philosophy from St. Peter's College (now St. Peter's University) in Jersey City. He later earned a Juris Doctorate from Fordham University School of Law. Jim served on active duty in Germany and England with the U.S. Army Chemical Corps, rising to the rank of Captain. He continued his military service after leaving active duty with N.J. Army National Guard, leaving with the rank of Major to join the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Jim had a long and storied career as a special agent with the F.B.I. Shortly after joining the F.B.I in 1962, he apprehended a "Top 10" fugitive in Texas. In the 1970s, Jim worked overseas to protect U.S. commercial passenger aircraft from terrorist hijackings. He received several commendations for his work in domestic and foreign counter intelligence matters as well as in the investigation of international organized crime narcotics trafficking. Jim is survived by his loving wife, Carol Ann (Codey) of Roseland, and his sons James L. (Eileen) and Geoffrey F.X. (Karen) and their children Emily, Timothy, and Michael. He was predeceased by his parents, Stephen and Ethel Lott, his bothers Stephen, Jr. and Arthur, and his sister Betty. Services will be private in care of the Codey & Jones Funeral Home of Caldwell. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Boulevard, Staten Island, NY 10306.
