Obituary of John Martin Kiefer, III

John Martin (Jack) Kiefer, III,  went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, March 1, 2019, surrounded by his loving family. At the time of death, he and his wife of 61 years, Shirley Ann (Carver) Kiefer, were residing at Willow Valley Retirement Community in Lancaster County, PA.

 

Friends are kindly invited to visit with the family at the Codey & Jones Funeral Home, 54 Roseland Avenue, Caldwell, NJ on Thursday, March 7th from 4-8 pm. Services celebrating Jack's life will be held at the Calvary Evangelical Free Church, 450 Fells Road, Essex Fells, NJ on Friday, March 8th at 10:00 am. The interment will follow at Mount Hebron Cemetery in Montclair, NJ. Friends and family are then invited back to Calvary Church for a repast luncheon. Born in Montclair, NJ to John and Annie Kiefer, Jack was raised in Bloomfield, NJ where he graduated from high school and from Bloomfield College with a BS IN Industrial Engineering. He served in the United States Navy from 1955-1956 before being honorably discharged. Jack was a senior project engineer with PSE&G in Newark, NJ for many years before his retirement.

 

A devoted Christian, Jack was a member of Calvary Evangelical Free Church and former member of the First Presbyterian Church at Caldwell.

 

In his spare time Jack was an avid outdoorsman enjoying fishing and hunting with his family. He was also a 4-H leader for many years and was active in the Boy Scouts. He was a member of CARP, the Calvary Association of Retired Persons.

 

In addition to his wife, Jack is survived by his devoted children and their spouses, Robert and Laurie Kiefer, Linda and Jesse Mellinger, loving grandchildren, David Ruckert, Katie and Matthew Kiefer.

 

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Jack would be appreciated to the Calvary Evangelical Free Church or the West Essex First Aid Squad.
