Obituary of Steven Allen Simmons

Steven Allen Simmons, 64, of Raleigh, NC, formerly of West Caldwell, NJ, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, June 4, 2019, leaving his family with memories of a well lived life. Steve was born in Dumont, NJ to John and Doris (Pettrich) Simmons. He was raised in Bergen County, NJ, and was a graduate of Davis and Elkins College in West Virginia. He met the love of his life, Claire Marie Beusse while they were beginning what would become life-long careers at IBM. Over the course of more than 30 years they worked at IBM offices in Parsippany, NJ, Somers, NY, and ultimately Raleigh, N.C. Steve retired as a project manager with IBM in 2016. Throughout the years he was a tireless volunteer for non-profit organizations including, The Boy Scouts of America, The American Red Cross, The Catholic Parish Outreach of Raleigh and Habitat for Humanity. He was an avid outdoorsman enjoying skiing, caving, canoeing, gardening and most of all mountain climbing and hiking with his sons. Surviving are his beloved wife, Claire, his devoted sons Matthew and Kyle, his mother, Doris Pettrich Simmons and siblings Dianne (Rick) Grabb of Ridgewood, NJ, Scott (Cindy) Simmons of South Carolina and Wendy (Jeff) Dropkin of New Hampshire. He was predeceased by his father, John Simmons Visitation with the family will be held at the Codey & Jones Funeral Home, 54 Roseland Avenue, Caldwell, NJ on Tuesday, June 11th from 4-7 pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament R.C. Church, 28 Livingston Avenue, Roseland, NJ on Wednesday, June 12th at 11:00 am. The interment is private.
