Jefferson William Woodcox of Fairfield, NJ, peacefully passed away on Friday, November 22, 2019 at home with his loving family by his side, he was 84 years old. Born in West Warren, MA to his parents, Jefferson S. and Lena Emily (Kecherson) Woodcox. Jeff lived many years of his young life in Paterson, NJ, where he graduated from Paterson Central High School in June of 1953. Mr. Woodcox proudly served in the US Air Force enlisting in 1953 where he was stationed at Barksdale AFB, Louisiana and Resolution Island, Greenland. Jeff was honorably discharged in 1957. He attended Seton Hall University while raising his family and graduated in June of 1964 with a degree of Bachelor of Arts. Jeff worked as an accountant before entering the Social Security Administration and worked his way up to a higher level and was appointed District Manager in 1980 of the Manhattan District of New York City. He retired as a district manager in 1995. Even though Jeff had a rewarding career, he volunteered his time to many other organizations. He served on the Board of Lifespire as President and trustee of the pension fund, a not for profit organization that worked with developmentally disabled children and adults for over 20 years. There were many other organizations that he served on as a board member, such as CASA, Mt.Pleasant Animal Shelter, a Federal Assistance Program that gave aide to federal employees in disaster. After his marriage to Louise in 1977 he resided in Fairfield, where he became an active member of the United Methodist Church of Caldwell where he served as the head of the Trustee committee, as well as many other committees over the years. In his leisure time he enjoyed competitive ballroom dancing with Louise and golfing with his friends. Predeceased are his loving parents Lena & Jefferson Woodcox, his brothers Robert Woodcox, John Vanderburg, and half-sister Agnes. Surviving are his beloved wife, Louise, devoted children, Cherylynn Johnston, Greg C. and Mark A, Woodcox, also six loving grandchildren and eleven adoring great grandchildren. Visitation with the family will be held at the Codey & Jones Funeral Home, 54 Roseland Avenue, Caldwell, NJ on Sunday, December 1st from 2-6 pm. Services will be held at the Caldwell United Methodist Church of, 8 Academy Road, Caldwell, NJ at 11:00 am. The interment will follow at Laurel Grove Memorial Park in Totowa, NJ.
