Carol Ann Lott, 81 - Retired Catholic School Educator

Carol Ann (nee Codey) Lott of Roseland, N.J. and formerly of Spring Lake Heights and West Caldwell passed away at her home on June 29, 2020.

Carol was born in Orange, N.J. She attended Immaculate Conception elementary school and high school in Montclair. Carol earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Caldwell College (now Caldwell University). Carol had a passion for Catholic education and taught in Newark Archdiocesan schools for nearly forty years. She started her teaching career as a first grade teacher at St. Aloysius School in Caldwell. She later became its first lay principal taking the school to new heights of academic achievement as well as to several successful seasons as coach to the girls basketball team. After helping to transition St. Aloysius School into an inter-parochial school (known as Trinity Academy), Carol decided to return to her first love - the classroom. She completed her career teaching middle school social studies at St. Stephen's School in Kearny before retiring. Carol loved each of her students and took great delight when encountering her former students as adults.

In addition to her classroom teaching career, Carol served on numerous Archdiocesan curriculum revision committees, especially in the areas of reading and literacy as well as a serving as a subject matter expert for several school accreditation panels. She was a member for many years of the Newark Archdiocesan Board of Education and was a member of the Montclair Immaculate Conception High School Board. Carol also mentored many student teachers over the course her teaching career. Her commitment to Catholic education was widely recognized and won her many awards.

Carol is survived by her loving sons, James L. (Eileen) and Geoffrey F.X. (Karen) and their children Emily, Timothy and Michael as well as by her brother Lawrence R. Codey (Claire) and her sister Catherine Manning (late husband William) and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her husband, James L. Lott, her parents, Frank and Catherine ("Kay") Codey and her brother Frank Codey III.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 7, 2020 at 9:30AM in St. Aloysius R.C. Church, 219 Bloomfield Ave., Caldwell. Internment will follow at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Upper Montclair. Services will be in care of Codey & Jones Funeral Home of Caldwell.
