Obituary of Mary R. Calandra

Please share a memory of Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Mary R, Calandra, a lifelong Caldwell, NJ resident, passed away on Thursday, March 11th, 2021.

Born in Glen Ridge, NJ to Louis and Rosaria (Pirrello) Calandra, Mary lived her entire life in Caldwell where she was raised with her two sisters and two brothers. She attended Lincoln Elementary School and Grover Cleveland High School.

Mary was a life-long parishioner of St. Aloysius Church; a daily communicant, a 35-year member of the Rosary Society and the St. Aloysius Senior Citizens Group.

Miss Calandra worked as a secretary at Anderson & Vreeland in Fairfield, NJ followed by her retirement which lasted a remarkable 35 years!

She was admired by family and friends for her silent acts of kindness, never seeking recognition or acknowledgement. Her strength and tenacity were unmatched; as was her tomato sauce, famous banana cream pie and devotion to the New York Yankees.

Mary and her siblings loved growing their famous tomatoes and relaxing under the chestnut tree at the family garden on Kirkwood Place; one of many pastimes which has been passed down through generations. Mary created a lifetime of memories and traditions for her family which will be forever cherished.

She was predeceased by her parents, Louis and Rosaria Calandra; sisters, Rose Calandra and Anne Emmanuelle, brothers, Anthony Calandra and Thomas Calandra and sister-in-law, Rose June.

Surviving are her devoted brother-in-law, Joseph Emmanuelle Sr.; cherished nieces and nephews, Joe (Donna) Emmanuelle, Tom (Claire) Calandra, Peggy (Jerry) Healey, Robert (Gudi) Calandra, Tom Emmanuelle, Christine (John) L'Hommedieu, John Emmanuelle, Mark Emmanuelle, Brian (Suzy) Emmanuelle, Joanne Calandra, Michael (Kelly) Calandra, Richard Calandra and Rosemary (Mark) Mattheiss; also 18 adored great nieces and nephews and 11 beloved great great nieces and nephews.
