Obituary of Joseph Arthur Vittoria
Joseph Arthur Vittoria, 74, of West Orange, NJ passed away suddenly at home on December 12, 2023.
Joe was born in August 1949 to Nicholas and Mary Louise (Nittolo) Vittoria. He grew up in West Orange and graduated from West Orange High School. Joseph went on to attend Essex County College and worked for the Turtle Back Zoo for over 30 years.
He loved spending time with his niece and nephews - filling their heads with facts and trivia questions whenever they were together. Joe looked forward to family gatherings and playing horseshoes and cornhole at their barbeques. He was known as the "Bread Guy". Every holiday, he would be one of the first patrons at Nicolo's Bakery in Montclair, picking up loaves of Italian bread and boxes of Torrone candy.
Joe was an avid collector of a variety of items - sports memorabilia, vinyl records, Lenox china, Disney figures. He was fascinated by exotic animals which enabled him to really love his work. Joe enjoyed watching his teams - the NY Yankees and the Oakland Raiders before they moved!
He was predeceased by his parents and is survived by his brothers, Nicholas and his wife, Ines; Lawrence and his wife, Maureen; and Andrew and his wife, Carolyn; his adored niece, Carly and her fiance, Derek; and his cherished nephews, Michael and his wife, Marissa; and Andrew.
The family will be honoring Joe's life with a Memorial on Sunday, June 9, 2024 from 1:00 to 3:00pm at Codey Funeral Home of Caldwell. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory to "Boland Golf - Old Timer's Day", c/o West Orange Rec. Dept., 66 Main St, West Orange, NJ 07052 would be most appreciated.
