Josephine Fried (Lawton), of Wall, NJ, formerly of Point Pleasant, NJ, passed away on Sunday, March 8, 2015. She was a remarkable 97 years old. Family and friends are invited for visitation at the Codey & Jones Funeral Home, 54 Roseland Avenue, Caldwell, NJ 07006 (973-226-6696) on Thursday, March 12th from 5 - 9 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Lucy's R.C. Church, 118 7th Avenue, Newark, NJ 07104 on Friday, March 13, 2015 at 10:00 am. The interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Brielle, NJ. To extend condolences or share a memory, please visit www.codeyjonesfh.com. Born and raised in Newark, NJ, Josephine was one of three children born to Thomas and Antoinette LaManna. She worked for many years at the Bank of Commerce and also as the co-owner along with her husband of Smith Pharmacy in Newark and Johnson Pharmacy in Point Pleasant. She was predeceased by her husbands, John Lawton and Abraham Fried; also a sister and brother. Surviving are her devoted son, Thomas Lawton and his wife, Anna; loving grandchildren, James-Jon Lawton and his wife, Maria, Joanna Pallante and her husband, Anthony, and Jessica Lawton; cherished great grandchildren, Michael & Joseph. In lieu of flowers, donations to The Ruth Gottscho Kidney Foundation, 515 Warwick Ave., Teaneck, NJ 07666, would be appreciated.
