Please share a memory of Dolores to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Beloved Wife, Mother and Grandmother West Caldwell Preschool Teacher Dolores Marie Jones (nee Schmidt), 84, a 56-year resident of West Caldwell NJ, the town she dearly loved, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 4, 2016. Family and friends are invited to visit at the Codey & Jones Funeral Home, 54 Roseland Avenue, Caldwell NJ, on Tuesday, June 7, 2016, from 4 to 8 pm. A Service of Resurrection and Remembrance will be held at the First Presbyterian Church at Caldwell, 326 Bloomfield Avenue, Caldwell on Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at 11:00 am. The interment will follow at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Caldwell. To extend condolences or share a memory, please visit www.codeyjonesfh.com. Dolores was born in East Orange NJ, and raised in Bloomfield NJ at 127 Montgomery Street, a special home filled with generations of the Lauterette family, the family of her mother. Dolores graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1949 and Montclair State Teacher's College in 1953. She was an elementary school teacher in Belleville NJ before meeting and marrying her love, Roger L. Jones. Together they moved to West Caldwell, where they raised four children. Like her father before her, Dolores became very active in the Republican Party, winning a seat on the Republican County Committee (RCC) following her move to West Caldwell. Dolores has proudly held her RCC position for over 50 years, and has also provided many years of service on the West Caldwell Board of Assistance. After raising her children at her home on Laurel Place, Dolores refocused her energies into her great passion: teaching. For the next 20 years, she found a second home at the Caldwell/West Caldwell Preschool Program. She was born to teach, and loved each and every one of the students whose lives she touched. A devoted Presbyterian, Dolores was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church at Caldwell. She enjoyed time with family, traveling with her husband Roger, and the art of communication. If you knew Dolores, you knew she could talk…especially on the telephone! She loved to stay connected with family, friends and her neighbors on Laurel Place and throughout the West Caldwell area. Dolores was predeceased by her husband, Roger L. Jones, Sr. in August 2015; parents, Arthur and Margaret Schmidt; brother, Sonny Boy Schmidt; sister and brother-in-law, Germaine and Steven Vacula; niece and nephew, Dale and Stephen Vacula; and son-in-law Donald Herzig II. Surviving are her devoted children, Roger L. Jones, Jr. and his wife Nancy; Lorry A. Callaghan and her husband, Michael; Garrett C. Jones; and Pamela M. Herzig; and 5 cherished grandchildren: Megan and Andrew Jones, Sean and Kevin Callaghan, and Amanda Herzig. She is also survived by loving niece Judy Vacula Miller and her husband, Robert; as well as granddogs Buster and Chase. In lieu of flowers, donations to the First Presbyterian Church at Caldwell, West Essex First Aid Squad, P.O. Box 662, West Caldwell, NJ 07006 or Atlantic Home Care & Hospice, 465 South Street, Suite 100, Morristown, NJ 07960 would be deeply appreciated. We would be remiss if we did not remind everyone to get out and Vote Republican this Tuesday, June 7– ironically this is the last time mom's name will be listed on the ballot. There are no coincidences in life, so please don't forget about Dolores on Tuesday!!
