Mrs. McLaughlin was a smart and scholarly woman who always gave me a big smile and a friendly hello when I saw her around town, before she slowed down. She was old school, she followed the rules and believed in hard work, integrity, and kindness. She was a devoted wife and mother and her family is a testament to the lessons she taught outside the classroom. Sending condolences to all of the McLaughlins and knowing that she is at peace and with her beloved husband, who was one of our most inspiring historians in our community. I loved his World War 2 book club meetings and lecture series. They were a great pair. May she rest in everlasting peace. Sincerely, Karen Eastman Bigos.

Mary Jean was such an effervescent lady. So kind and interested in everyone else’s lives. I loved the twinkle- wink that she would give and I admired her so much in her dedication to her family and students. The Kearney’s are sorry for all of her family.

To the McLaughlin family,
My deepest condolences to all of you. Mary Jean and John were great friends of my parents, Arlene and Arthur Hill. Mary Jean was so kind to my family when my Mother passed away in 2001 and brought us food on a weekly basis. Mary Jean and John were also part of the Friday night group at Baltusrol and welcomed me as my Father's plus 1. Mary Jean was always smiling and I enjoyed her company immensely. I will miss her laugh.
With deepest sympathy,
Wendy Mills

Our deepest and most sincere condolences. Mary Jean was every best thing I imagine when I think of “old school” manners.
John and Mary Jean were our neighbors for more than thirty years - the best neighbors - never once did we have any sort of disagreement.
But, of course, they were more than neighbors. Both John and Mary Jean came to my parents’ viewings (in Manhattan). While she had so much to brag about with her children and grandchildren, unlike most matrons, she never did. She would always rather ask about my family. The closest to selfishness she ever got was talking about her teaching. She was always so demur and self effacing even though she raised such a wonderful family. She watched me grow and helped me in becoming a better parent.
We will miss her dearly,
Shao & Cheryl Wang

I was so sad to her about Mary Jean. We taught together at pingry. She was a dear friend. I often visited her at the Chelsea
until we were not allowed in anymore. We shared our Italian recipes; I would go to here classroom daily and she would always greet me with "What's new" She was a great teacher and was so proud of her children and grandchildren. I will miss her
