Coach Dougan was my HS Soccer coach at West Essex HS. We were a first year school. He formed a soccer team and we went undefeated 7-0-6 but didn’t make the playoffs because they said we had too many ties. Obviously in years to come he proved that the first year was not a fluke. More important than his coaching success was the fact that he was a gentle-considerate and a very kind person. He will be missed.

Dear Mr. Dougan was the best teacher I had in Roseland and West Essex. I loved him for his kindness. I was a nerdy skinny kid and he made me feel I belonged. My love and sympathy to the whole family.
Sincerely,
Susan Clark Reavis( All 4 of my siblings were his students too )

I loved Ralph. He was a big part of my HS career. I could never thank him enough for all he did. The hours I spent talking to him in his office are treasured. He was a voice of reason to a 17 kid who was a little nuts. RIP my friend. You will be missed but never forgotten.

Mary, Jeff, and Ralph, I am so sorry for your loss and I extend my deepest condolences to your entire family. Take great comfort in the many ,many tributes and remembrances of Ralph from so many of us whose lives he touched. I am so lucky that I had a chance to chat with him at Thanksgiving. In all of our lives, we are fortunate to have a few people who are larger than life, that we embrace, respect, and always continue to remember fondly, and tell our stories , over a lifetime. For myself, Ralph is one of those very few, and in my Hall of Fame forever, RIP Ralph Dougan

Growing up Ralph was always at our house. He was my father's (Vincent Pagano) nephew, but they were more like brothers. Their love of soccer was second only to their love of their families. They spent hours upon hours discussing every possible aspect of the game. Those discussion became even more interesting when my father started officiating his games. Almost every visit Ralph would sit with me and give me advice and guidance. His pleasant personality, warm smile, and smart insights were much appreciated. As time moved on we would talk and fondly recount those days. I will miss those conversations and his thoughts. He was my "Harrison Historian," as well as my cousin, and life long friend. He was kind to everyone and the type of individual you would want to emulate. As we would say, he was just a "good guy."
I have a distinct feeling that my father just sent a crossing pass to Ralph who took it in stride, maneuvering around defenders, and shooting it in for a goal. A Heavenly score...
Our deepest condolences to Mary, Ralphie, Jeffrey, and family. We'll all miss him.
Sincerely,
Vince and Annette Pagano
