Born in Ridgewood, NJ to her parents, Rexford Byron and Florence Kemp Whittemore, Doris lived in the Caldwells since 1949 before moving to North Caldwell in 1967. She attended the NJ College for Women and real estate school.
In 1963, she purchased Mitchell & McKenna, Inc, a real estate company in Caldwell which she ran until her retirement in 1987. She was a past President of the West Essex Multiple Listing System. She was twice a President of the West Essex Board of Realtors, and named "Realtor of the Year" on two occasions.
Doris was a faithful Presbyterian and a pillar in the First Presbyterian Church at Caldwell. She joined the church in 1950, was an Elder, a life member of Women's Fellowship and a former Trustee of the Newark Presbytery. As a longtime member of the Building & Grounds Committee she was instrumental in getting the church an elevator for handicapped accessibility.
She loved Lake George and enjoyed her home in Bolton Landing, where she was always surrounded by family and loving friends. Her family roots were generational in Bolton and she continued the tradition with years of having her family around her.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, David W., in 1983 and a loving brother, Jack Whittemore. She is survived by her devoted children, Diane Kesler, Robert W. Dusinberre and his wife, Lorraine, and John R. Dusinberre and his wife, Susan; cherished grandchildren, Terri Pennington, Scott Grant, Kate Dusinberre, Tyler Curran and Brian Dusinberre; and, great grandchildren, Thomas and Zachary Pennington.
Donations to the First Presbyterian Church at Caldwell Memorial Fund, or the Women's Fellowship of the First Presbyterian Church at Caldwell, would be deeply appreciated.
